Emergency Phone Number During Transport – Obligatory Information for Your Savety Data Sheet

CLP as the european regulation in force obliges companies to deliver information on dangerous chemicals to official registers in the country in which the goods are marketed. The regulation is supposed to create a data basis in order to facilitate an immediate emergency medical assistance. Although the CLP requirements are very useful, for many companies they also prove difficult to enforce, espacially since there are no unified reporting systems within the EU. Safety Data Sheets containing the key information on a chemical or mixture in a concise form should therefore be considered as an essential source of communication throughout the chemical supply chain. In addition to the information-giving area, they also contain important poison and emergency numbers.

Safety Data Sheet as a Multi-Level Information Tool

A Safety Data Sheet is divided into several sequences. Already in the first section a contact for technical questions about the endangerment of the product with email address and telephone number must be mentioned. Ideally, this is not an individual, but a team to compensate for illness and vacation related outages. This information function is usually in the best hands with the manufacturer. However, after an individual agreement, Qualisys can also take over this task for you.

Poison Emergency Call – Fast Action in Poisoning Incidents

Each safety data sheet must specify an emergency number that will assist you in the event of ingestion or inhalation of your product or provide advice on other health problems. The emergency number is intended as a contact for treating physicians in acute cases, but may be limited to office hours within the scope of REACH. However, more and more countries require an emergency number within each country. In addition, CLP Article 45 and related regulations outside Europe often require notification to a national authority.

Transport Emergency Call According to CLP

Almost all airlines require in the transport documents the indication of a 24-hour emergency number for the period of transport. Also U.S. Coast Guard requires such an emergency number for inland transport in the US, otherwise severe penalties are likely. All information must be provided in English and refer to the inspection of transport documents and assistance with leaks and accidents. Usually, but not necessarily, we mention this number also in the safety data sheet. This emergency number is not necessary for European road and inland waterway transport.
