Start of ban on microplastics
Paragraph 16: Start of the ban on microplastics, unless the application is mentioned in paragraph 6 and subject to later ban deadlines. This includes all microbeads products.
Info requirements for 4(a): industrial uses, 4(d): food additives, 5: non-bioavailable microparticles
For 4(d): food additives and 5: non-bioavailable microparticles -
“provide instructions for use and disposal explaining to professional users and the general public how to prevent releases of synthetic polymer microparticles to the environment.”
This may be provided as a pictogram in accordance with paragraph 10, and must be affixed to the product, packaging, or insert.
For 4a: Industrial uses -
"provide
- instructions for use and disposal explaining to industrial downstream users how to prevent releases of synthetic polymer microparticles to the environment;
- the following statement: “The synthetic polymer microparticles supplied are subject to conditions laid down by entry 78 of Annex XVII to Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliamentand of the Council”;
- the information on quantity or, as applicable, concentration of synthetic polymer microparticles in the substance or mixture;
- generic information on the identity of the polymers contained in the substance ormixture that enables manufacturers, industrial downstream users and other suppliers tocomply with their obligations laid down in paragraphs 11 and 12" [Reporting requirements].
In accordance with paragraph 10, this may be done in the form of a pictogram and must be affixed to the product, packaging, or insert, or specified in the safety data sheet.
Info requirements for 4(a): "in vitro diagnostic devices"

Ban of 6(b): rinse-off products , 6(d): leave-on products
For rinse-off products: unless covered by 6(a) or containing microbeads,
For leave-on products: unless covered by 6(a) or 6(c)
Ban of 6(e): detergents ..., waxes, polishes and air care products, fertilising products and products for agricultural and horticultural uses
unless under 6(a) or with microbeads and unless specified in 6(g) or 6(h).
Ban of 6(a): microplastics for use in the encapsulation of fragrances, and devices
unless with microbeads
Ban of 6(h): plant protection products ... and seeds treated with those products, biocidal product, and granular infill for use on synthetic sports surfaces
Plus information requirements pursuant to paragraph 9 for products pursuant to paragraph 6(c) until October 16, 2035 (when the ban takes effect):
“provide the following statement: ‘This product contains microplastics.’”
To be affixed to the product, packaging, or insert in accordance with paragraph 10. Transition period for products previously placed on the market until December 17, 2031.
Ban of 6(c): lip products, nail products, and make-up products
unless under 6(a) or 6(b) or with microbeads.
